Humanities Academy

Designed for:

Students working at grade level or above, with a strong interest in performing and visual arts. If you enjoy reading, performing, discussions, and open-end inquiry, this is the program for you!

Criteria for Acceptance:

  • Students working at grade level or above, with a love of learning and a passion for culinary arts
  • Strong teacher recommendation indicating suitability for the program.
  • Grades and achievement test scores indicating student is working at grade level.
Honors Class:
  • State Identified Gifted or ability to be identified Gifted according to LAUSD criteria.

Special Features:

  • Academic rigor and differentiated instruction combined with innovative, project-based, cross-curriculum assignments.
  • Two academy teachers share sixth grade core academic classes.
  • Four separate subject academy teachers teach two year sequential curriculum for the 7th and 8th grades.
  • Mandatory 3 year sequential enrichment class: environmental stewardship, global issues, application of environmental values into the daily lives of the students, greenhouse and garden-based activities.
  • Additional enrichment opportunities may include music, art, technology, and leadership, schedule permitting.
